Yesterday I looked at my calendar and realized as short as February is I already have a lot of things penciled in. I like the phrase “penciled in”, to me it means you can just as easily erase and pencil out of something; it’s not an etched in stone thing you cannot forgo easily. Several of the dates involve photography (yay!) and the rest are get togethers or the dreaded Dr. appointments. Mentioning Dr. appointments, it is during those exams that one is often required to stick out their tongue so that a stick without any ice cream, candy, or frozen treat can be inserted in and – baring any gag reflexes – ones mouth and throat can be studied.
Other than that, the sticking out of the tongue means several things: 1. Something tasted disgusting 2. You are making a face at someone be it playfull or not. 3. Blowing a raspberry. 4. You are licking the spoon of something good you are making. 5. You are Gene Simmons from KISS (Let’s just leave that last one alone, shall we?) Whatever the reason, unless you are at the physicians office, sticking out the tongue is an act your mother probably told you was not a polite thing to do and possibly even ‘if you keep making that face it will freeze that way’ sort of thing.
So how in the world do orchids figure into this equation. Orchids are amazingly beautiful exotic plants and come in a myriad of shapes, sizes, and colors. Using the imagination one can see little alien faces, pig noses, big chins, birds in flight, dragons, and on and on. In this case, as I was going through the files checking to see what I could turn into prints and so forth I noticed this one species and thought either this plant tasted something it didn’t like or it’s just being a brat! Check it out and tell me what you envision.
More orchid pictures will be coming but they will be a bit different as I’ve discovered the joys of filters in PSE9. Cue the mad scientist theme music.
This a gorgeous shot of all those naughty tongues. i think it is really pretty! Good luck with the doctors, i have not been to one for about 18 years now, actually maybe 20 years, well except for my immigration blood tests 5 years ago.. So rather you than me! c
You lucky thing you! No visits for so long. I wish! But I bet with all that farmy work you are in fantastic health. t
Great shot! I’m so glad you’re featuring so many beautiful orchids in your posts. Not only that, but that you’re doing it so well. I love ’em all!
Awwwwww thankie muchly, John. Now what shall I post next? 😉
WOW ! Fantastic photo Teri!!! Tell the doctor that you want the ice cream on the stick first and then you will stick out your tongue!
LOL!!! I just want him to tell me I’m ok and I don’t have to come back for a year!
Hillarious and beautiful photos. Did you intend to take photos of this nature or did you see them and think ‘that deserves a photo?’
I just saw them and said Oh how pretty! It wasn’t until editing that I noticed their “behavior” 🙂
I immediately saw these as open mouths, before I read your text.

Ah hah! It’s not just me! Thanks for stopping by.
Don’t worry, this orchid can get away with the face-making because it’s still too immature to know better–see how it still has those big buck-toothed secondaries that it hasn’t quite grown into yet in its uppers? 😉
You are so very correct! They have to grow up a bit more before they can get their color coordinated braces and then some manners. hehehe
