Go Speed Buggie, Go!

“You can chase a butterfly all over the field and never catch it. But if you sit quietly in the grass it will come and sit on your shoulder.”

But in the case of the blue Morpho you can “fuggetaboutit”!  Well let me take that back a bit.  You can capture them with their wings folded up revealing the brown underside as shown in my preview post, but wings opened revealing the beautiful blue? Hard as heck to capture.  They swoop and flutter so quickly and in and out of the plant life to the point you have just enough time to say “Look! there goes one!” and then they are gone.  I honestly believe the little buggers are laughing at us mere humans as they flutter at warp speed around us.  One flew right past my knees leaving me with a very pretty and very blurry shot of blue wings, but I laid in wait and got this one with a higher speed setting on the camera.

Not the best shot but at least you can get an idea of what the other side of it looks like and how big they are.  I could’ve sworn this one was snickering as it flew away.

TD: You’re too critical of your photography. The picture of the Blue Morpho in flight up the steps took my breath away! Gosh, girl, you are so good! I loved all the butterfly pictures through the rest of the post. So magnificent. Keep ’em coming! ET
