A Poll

The things I’ve begun to notice since kicking my photography up a few notches.  For one, I’ve begun to pay attention to art work (any and all mediums) displayed on the walls of homes, offices, stores, restaurants, etc. (DH has often asked me what was I looking at this time when I just stop and stare)  And I’ve noticed that they are being displayed in various ways, some I’m really beginning to like.  So here is my little unofficial poll.  No scientific method going on at all, very very informal; do not give me that look research methods professor in my head!   Just curious to see what others like.  My answer is D.  A combo of A and B.

Poll Question:

If you were going to display artwork on your wall what shape would you prefer? ( I realize it would depend on what the subject matter was but just in general preferences for this)
A. Perfectly square
B. Common (ie. 8×10 – 11×14 – 16×20 and such)
C. Long or tall (ie. panoramic)
D. A combo of which ones above

    I would have to say, D, a combo of A and B.

  2. My vote is for a combination of A & B. (I’ve had a few research methods professors, too, so I know that “look” you’re talking about 🙂 )

Oh dear.. for me, it really depends on the wall and the image. In a perfect world I prefer large prints on wide mats within a good sized rectangular frame. One of my walls is covered in 8×10’s all in black frames, all black and white, with 3 inch mats, another wall has a huge print in a rectangular frame, in front me in the study is every kind of frame and all kinds of sizes with an eclectic mixture of subject matter. No,. i don’t think i can play. I jam shots into all kinds of frames. sorry i cannot help.. c

I vote A, although a combo with B wouldn’t be bad either. I mean, I wouldn’t enter the room and start ripping things off the wall — usually.

  7. I think it would have to be based on what the subject matter was! I would probably go for D – a combination, and mix them up like a collage on the wall. I’m not a huge fan of the “typical size” prints, like 8×10 and 5×7, because they always end up cropping off a part of the image, and maybe it’s a part that you didn’t WANT cropped off! Luckily, the lab that I use has sizes like 8×12, so that I can see the whole image!! But, I’m babbling now…..

Bottom line is, it depends on what I’m framing!! 😉

  8. I think for the most part I’d have to say a combo of A and B! But really it is going to depend on the subject, the space, and maybe even my mood. 😀

  9. I ADORE Polaroids so when I scan and reprint mine they are of course square so my new nest will be filled with square mostly matted and framed photos, but I like a good proportioned rectangle every now and again so I’ll say a combo of A and B 🙂

Gee…this is tough. For me though, I think it depends on the subject in the image and where it will be displayed. Interesting poll/question.
