From Cabbages to Monsters – Doll Hunting

Soon some of us will partake in that bit of insanity we call Black Friday! (cue the ominous music and crack of thunder and lightening) I for one am not about to go that batty.  I did it a couple of times when the boy and girl child were much much younger and I had more stamina for standing in line in the freezing cold than I do now.

But there is no so called bargain sale out there that can even begin to scratch the surface of my resolve to stay in my warm and cozy bed on Thanksgiving evening or early the next day.  Not happening, no way no how, not today and tomorrow isn’t looking good either.  So what am I going to do for presents for loved ones this year?  Well, gift cards are number one with a bullet.  After that it is ordering online and having the store deliver it to them.  Then there is order online have it delivered here and either I ship it off in a box with other goodies (if I don’t make cookies for some people it will get ugly!) or wrap it up and hide it until time to slip it under the tree.

Make my life simple, please!  But there is a kink in that desired simplicity – it’s called Monster High Dolls! (cue music and lightening again).  The grandgirl collects these things, she and a billion other little girls apparently.  When did dolls named after classic monsters become en vogue?  Draculaura, Frankie Stein, Clawdeen Wolf, and Operetta – offspring of Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, and Phantom of the Opera respectively.  Who thinks of these things?

The dolls she does not have are just this side of AIN’T NO WAY finding.  I have hit several stores to no avail and online? Either the doll is at a scalpers price or not available at all.  This reminds me of many many years ago when girl child was a little one and the rage was Cabbage Patch dolls.  I stalked a toy store for the one she wanted like a crazed fan.  The day it came in I was without a car but I walked a block away to a neighbors house and begged the neighbor to take me to the toy store to get the doll.  She had a good laugh but did humor me and take me.  Phew!

When did the most wanted toy go from this:Cabbage Patch Kids Caucasian Brunette Girl Fairy

To this:  Monster High Draculaura Doll

The times they are a changing!  On a side note – Furbies are back!  LOL

I’ve only shopped one Black Friday and it was last year. I needed to replace a stolen snowblower. What a colossal waste of time! Only the very large models were on sale and the wait for a salesperson was endless. I returned home hours later, having driven to 5 stores, with a small poinsettia. I didn’t really want it but I just couldn’t come home empty handed.

I’ve seen those dolls…I think! Those things look scary! LOL! I’m glad Kayden isn’t at the phase of asking for certain “dolls” yet, but I hope when that time comes, she won’t ask for dolls that look this!
