Easter Beg Hunt

No, that was not a typo, it was an Easter Beg Hunt.  What is that you say?  Well instead of little children going scampering about looking for little plastic eggs (or maybe even real ones) filled with goodies this hunt was for dogs.  As I don’t have a puppy of my own (allergies – sigh) I had no idea this event was going on this past weekend but it was the 5th year for it.  We were taking a different route to get to the Franklin Park Conservatory to see this years orchids when I noticed so so many dogs walking their owners up and down High Street.  I also noticed they all seemed to be carrying the same bag and were popping in and out of certain stores.  I had to stop!

Apparently you started at whatever point and with bag and sheet with places to go “hunt” in – off you and your four legged friend went.  I don’t know what else was involved with the hunt other than dog lovers having a great time and in some cases embarrassing their pooch in some interesting outfits (dresses, ties, scarves, and the pit bull in the bunny ears was a hoot!), it looked like a very successful event.  There were dogs that ranged in size from teeny little purse puppies to some huge close to 4 foot tall ones.  I feared for the little ones when they would be standing under one of the really big ones but other than a few barking incidents all got along well and there were water bowls and treats for each and every doggie.  And the breeds?  There were so many breeds (and good old fashioned dog dogs) there too: Corgis, Great Danes, German Shepherds, French Bulldogs and Poodles, Beagles, Dalmatians and more that I have no idea what they were but they were all beautiful.

I was very impressed that everyone had a well behaved dog and as I got down on their level to take some pictures I got plenty of puppy loving.  I wish I could have one…they were adorable.

What a great event! I cannot speak for all owners, Teri, but I believe that the reason these dogs were so well-behaved is because dog owners like myself prefer to keep our incorrigible pupsters at home, away from public scrutiny and, yes, even ridicule. 🙂
