Well that all depends on where your home is and if there is anything there for you to go to. Home is where you are but your hometown is usually where you were born…but even that is subject to discussion. There are those who leave the town and home they were born in and vow never to return for a variety of reasons; there are some who never leave home (sometimes much to the consternation of some parents who wish they would go); there are others who return as long as there is something worth going home again for.
For me the biggest – or should I say smallest but growing like weeds – reasons are 9 (he) and 7 (she). Oh sure I visit my sister and my son and daughter-in-law and sometimes some friends, but you just cannot top hugs and kisses, crayon drawings, endless cartoons on the television, pizza slices with so much Parmesan cheese on it you cannot see the pizza anymore (why????) making a tent out of the cushions on the sofa sleeper, and of course that eternal cry of “Watch, Nana! Look, Nana!” If I could bottle the energy those two have and synthesize it I would be one seriously rich woman! But as we don’t have their energy we have to resort to turning them loose in a pool, play area, or outdoors to wear them down so that we all can get some sleep later…until we do it again the next day.
Happiness is teaching them how to play pick up jacks; a game they had never seen nor played before; what a travesty I say! Happiness is grandchildren because you get to give and receive so much love, spoil them to pieces and then hand them back to their parents! HAH!
Oh yeah… the joy of Grand kids… when they get out of hand you give em back… I like to get them really going then hand them back to the parent… revenge…
Oh ain’t that the truth!!!!!
That last part is so wrong on so many levels…….lol. Glad you had fun with the kids. Come back and get them anytime 😉
Wrong nothing! It’s called payback, baby! muah hah ha!!!!!!
God Bless You Nana – next teach them to play “pick up sticks” – remember that?
I actually never played that but did play marbles and double dutch 😉
yes, double dutch….the memories. I was going to do a post on fun summer games…
Sounds like great times! My sisters would not let me play pick-up-jacks…it’s a girls game. They would let me play pick-up-sticks though. Remember kick the can, and mother may I? and…
What about Red light – Green light and tag and all the other goodies?
Oh I forgot about those games. We used to play them every night with the neighborhood kids! How about flashlight tag, and build up the army, and….
I’ve opened a Pandora’s toy box 😉
That photo of the 3 of you is really something, Teri! I’ve not seen jacks played in ages. That’s what Grandparents are for: to teach the youngin’s the old ways. 🙂
DH took that photo with his phone so it’s not the best of images. And that one was the nicest pose…we got really goofy with the other ones. I also specialize in teaching them weird things to say when they go back home – hehehe.
I saw your grandkids with your husband on FB and they are darling!!!
I loves them bunches of bunches!
