I’m back! All sorts of wonderful things happened over the holiday – and I have the new girth to show for it! But I want to share this with you first. Ran into this fellow and his adorably cuddly goat while in St. Charles, Missouri. Seems his name is Julenisse and he and his pet goat, Yuley, visit the children in Scandinavian countries such as Norway, Sweden Denmark, and Finland. Yuley knocks on their doors with his horns three times and when they answer they are given a gift and a small paper basket of candy to hang on their Christmas trees.
Fancy meeting him in the midwest!
Seeing “Julenisse” in your title, with the words “I’m back!” starting your post, made me think you’d snuck a quick Thanksgiving trip over the pond!
Now I know why he hasn’t knocked on our door in the almost seven years I’ve been in Norway … he’s been visiting in the midwest! 🙂
He did just happen to mention something about leaving out oatmeal/porridge and that he will be back there in time for Christmas 🙂
Aw, I want to hug Juley….. 🙂
I wanted one of my own!!!
Julenissen is a very well-traveled guy, in my experience! He spent significant time stopping by my family’s Christmas parties around the Seattle area in my youth as well. Luckily for me, he was always pretty generous in his annual evaluations of my behavior so I had happy holidays alongside my many cousins despite any odd naughtiness I *might* have committed once in awhile. 😉 Lucky you to get an early visit with him and his four-legged henchman.
That is awesome to hear from someone who has “met” him before. Yuley liked the attention I gave him especially the scratch on the nose. You? naughtiness? Nahhhhh
I used to live in St. Charles!! I am a graduate of St. Charles West High School as a matter of fact!! (Go Warriors!) You were in my old stomping ground!!! That old St. Charles shopping reminds me of Christmas!! HOW FUN!! –Lisa
FAR OUT!!! I used to live just on the other side of the river from St. Charles and spent many many happy moments wandering up and down the old section there. Great micro brewery along with all the shopping and sites 😉
No WAY!!! My parents still live in Chesterfield. I can’t believe it! It’s a small world after all, isn’t it?!?! –Lisa
Yep! Indeed it is! We used to live in Creve Couer
My prior home was in a formerly Swedish neighborhood called Andersonville. I know Julinesse and Yuley. They visited the area, much to the delight of the wee ones. I’m not so sure they knew him as Julinesse and not Santa but who was going to complain? They were all beaming at the sight of him and, really, that’s all the mattered.
