As I write this (or should that be type this) it is currently 1 degree F. here in middle Ohio and not expected to go up any for a day or so. Thankfully we didn’t have much snow; matter of fact the previous inches of snow we had from an earlier snow storm was washed away by the rain and 40 degree temps we had yesterday. Forty degrees, that sounds positively balmy. Now while that is all fine and good as far as the snow going away – it left water which has now transformed itself to ice skating rinks in some places.
This is dress in layers even when you’re in the house type of weather. For you who live further north or in Nordic countries you are probably saying HAH! she thinks that’s cold? But it is record cold for us here in the States and most of us are not liking it. The children are happy because schools are closed, the parents aren’t because the kids are still at home and they have scrambled to find a place to put the children unless their places of work have closed, teachers are happy for another day off (ah, I recall those days well), and the various Departments of Transportation are out there going full tilt trying to make streets as safe as possible.
Grocery stores across the land were being depleted of certain food stuffs yesterday and the day before as word of the storm spread. Why is it that we do that? But when we went yesterday (yes, I was part of that crowd too) you would’ve thought they were having a 75% off everything sale. I found it interesting to check out the other carts to see what they were stocking up on; bottled iced tea, diapers, chips, a great deal of cereal, milk, bread…things like that.
There aren’t any new photos for today. I haven’t taken a picture of the weather outside because frankly, my camera gave me such a dirty look when I even suggested peeking out to take a photo and for some reason I just couldn’t bring myself to post any photos from the warmer places I’ve photographed recently. So the wintery photos here are from past posts but the ice remains the same. If you are part of this deep freeze I hope you and yours are staying safe and warm (mentioning warm, I am so going to hate to see my heating bill next month) and do check up on the sick and elderly.
