The Blue Morpho

(Because it’s cold and wintery outside I have declared this butterfly week to lift spirits!  Each day a different butterfly from the Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory will be featured.  I hope I have their names correct but if you happen to see one mislabeled please let me know the proper name.)

At my local conservatory this butterfly has given me a run for my money many times when trying to photograph it but there was an abundance of them at the Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory so I was happily able to get some very good shots.  For the first time ever I even had one land on me!  There were quite a few fluttering around near me with a couple bouncing off my head…which is a very interesting sensation; almost magical.  I don’t know why it is designated as the Common Blue Morpho because it’s far from common to me.

Don’t you love it when they are so accommodating? Love that blue!

  3. Blue Morphos are so, so beautiful! Nice shots—they’re rarely still long enough for such captures.
