Another place that I may find myself returning to this year (maybe – everything travel is so up in the air now it’s frustrating) but whenever I head there I always go to the Desert Botanic Garden in Phoenix, Arizona. The optimum time to visit is when the desert is in bloom which is from March to May, maybe June. Things are gorgeous then with all of the desert flowers blooming plus the weather hasn’t gotten dreadfully hot yet. I’ve seen quail, a roadrunner, bees and butterflies, hummingbirds, cactus wrens, lizards, and jack rabbits. Next to the Garden is Papago Park with a little lake in it where I have seen ducks and cormorants.
I’d love to get a good shot of the hummingbirds one day but you have to be quick or lucky for those shots…or both.
Beautiful images! The wren in particular is just perfect 🙂
Thank you. That little guy was trying to figure out how to get into the car. No idea why.
Those hummers *are* fast little creatures, aren’t they. I hope you are quick and lucky one day soon!
Thanks I hope so too!
Nice photos…There is a desert museum in Tucson that has a hummingbird aviary. There were quite a few people i there with long lenses getting photos. Or do you prefer the natural, hummingbird photo safari experience?
Ooooooooo! I am going to have to look into that the next time I’m in Arizona.
It is a good thing to take in. It is right near the National park on the west side of town (I think).
Will look it up and add it to my places to visit board 🙂
Nice pictures. I love this place too and I’m sure that if I ever return to Phoenix I will make everything possible to go back there 😉
Thanks. And if you can make it during the blooming season it will be even better!
These are great, @CindyKnoke has some wonderful Hummingbird photos – I love those little guys!
They are wonderful creatures and wonderfully speedy! 🙂
Nice shots Teri depicting the desert. The Desert Sonoran Museum in Tucson is a pretty neat place to visit. I did a post on it last February (2013). The Hummingbird Avery was awesome as is the ‘birds of prey’ show. Check out Brenda and Hectors amazing post on it. http://www.islandgirlwalkabout.com/2014/01/10/raptors-and-monsters-and-snakes-oh-my/
It is so on my list of places to go when we go back to Arizona. Thanks 🙂
Colorful and happy images!
Thank you 🙂
Great shots, Teri. You have to give those critters credit. It can’t be easy calling the desert home.
That bunny did not look too happy with the temps while the lizard was getting ready to do a “mating” dance. 😉
