21C Museum Hotel – Art

On our anniversary getaway we took a drive down to Cincinnati, Ohio and stayed at this really amazing and interesting hotel – the 21C Museum Hotel.  Why is it called that? Well for one, the first two floors of the hotel are dedicated to art and anyone can come in and view it round the clock.  Now if you want to get past the first two floors you do need a hotel key.

I don’t know how often the exhibits change but they do and the current one was very interesting.  There were photos, carvings, statues, and some interactive pieces.  As beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is art; some of the pieces were amazing, some really fun (the 4 foot plastic penguins) and others were just – ummm – interesting to say the least.  A very “chic” thing about the museum is that on the ground floor there is a restaurant and bar where you can order yourself a glass of wine and take it with you as you view the art work…which I did 🙂

Here are a few of the works on display.  An interesting FYI – the white swans in the last photo?  Made from bedpans.

What a great experience — art and wine, all just steps from your (temporary) home. Perfect! 🙂
