Memorial Day

I wanted to reblog this post today because it expresses my feelings about today. I miss and love you Mom and Dad; Edward and Monte.  (The image is of my parents headstone with details removed.  This is dad’s side and mom is on the other)

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday which occurs every year on the final Monday of May.[1] Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.[2] Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. Memorial Day also sounds the starting pistol for schools being out (most of them) and the summer vacation time to begin.  Many celebrate by having cookouts with friends and family on their decks, in their backyards or in parks.  But for many, including me, it is time to reflect and miss those who have served.  My brother is…

    Thank you for the link to your previous post about Memorial Day. You mentioned the flags that volunteers put on the gravesites of fallen soldiers … I have 3 friends who go to Arlington every year in December and put wreaths on the graves. I love that they do that.
