There’s an old abandoned motel on Rt. 23 in Delaware, Ohio that we’ve driven past a few times and one day this past summer I finally got around to photographing it. There’s not a lot to see from the outside other than it is in the shape of an L and from the looks of the boarded windows and doors the rooms must not have been very big. There were a lot of motels like this in the 60’s and earlier for the weary traveler/family who was on their road trip. Rt. 23 now is very busy now but back in this motel’s prime I imagine it was just a two lane road.
I haven’t been able to find any information on it other than one photographer’s Flickr account where she was able to get into it back in 2007 and photographed the interiors. Here is the link to her photo of a shower in one of the rooms – if this doesn’t remind you of Psycho I don’t know what will!
You can check out any time you like but you can never leave….(Hotel California by The Eagles)
Neat shots… Did you know sweet, sweet man lived in Delaware many moons ago!
Delaware, Ohio did he? Cool!
Okay I am curious to know what the inside of some of the rooms looks like.. No pressure just saying is all :-). No hint
Click on the link that says shower and you will get to see. That photog got in there before they boarded it all up.
“Trailer for sale or rent, rooms to let, 50 cents. No phone, no pool, no pets, I ain’t got no cigarettes. Ah, but, two hours of pushin’ broom. Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room. I’m a man of means by no means, king of the road.” I think Roger Miller described this one pretty well.
The weathered plywood and the stone are really nice complementary textures.
And it just sits there by the side of the busy road in pretty good outside condition.
I spent many a night in similar…I can just see on the sign Free TV, Phone, Air Conditioned…Great piece of roadside history.
Hey I remember when cable tv first came out and some motels had “We have HBO” as a perk! 😉
Yes, motels always on the cutting edge of technology…
Oh, what a ghostly, spooky place to be on Halloween! 🙂
Boo! 🙂
Nicely shot, Teri. This has some great texture. Abandoned places just have a charm, don’t they.
While I’m not even in the ballpark with Infraredrobert of exploring the abandoned…I do love these places. Thanks.
Me too 😃
Looks like a haunted motel now it has became 🙂 Great shots, Teri!
Thanks, Indah. The sign to me is actually the spookiest part of it.
