Slowly, after the light gets better and the dawn patrol has gone, the other balloons get rolled out by their crews and await their turn to inflate and launch. The first balloons up after the dawn patrol are the ones that are there to give rides to those who have paid for a ride. There is an entire row of these as you can see in the first photo. A different balloon is chosen each day that rises carrying the American flag as the national anthem is played and then bit by bit the mass ascension begins as the sun works its way over the mountains.

Thanks and glad to see you back!
Wonderful images. It does look very crowded.
Thanks! There were some elbow to elbow times but usually even loaded with my equipment I was able to bob and weave through the crowds.
What is the collective noun for a gathering of hot air balloons?
Bunch of balloons?
Hard to believe these are actual photos, Teri. They seem like something Pixar may have dreamt up.
Thinking about UP? hehehe
Unfortunately, we were too lazy to get out of bed early enough to see that.
The early bird catches the balloon 😉
LOL
Or it still catches a good nap! 😀
