This past weekend we went to the Dayton Air Show in Dayton, Ohio. This was my very first time attending one as well as photographing things that move in excess of 200 mph. Well, the helicopters weren’t that fast and neither were the parachute team but that’s later…
Every branch of the service as well as private owners and humanitarian service planes were represented; some flew while others were on the ground to either view or in some cases, to walk through. In the case of the C-17 here I walked in, climbed up the stairs to get to the cockpit, back down and then out the tail.
It is 174 feet in length, 55 feet high with a 169 foot wingspan. Empty it weighs in at 282,500 lbs and can take off with a maximum weight of 585,000 lbs. Amazing!

And from the ramp toward the front.
Nice set of images to show the size of this beast. We used to have an air show close to us but they stopped it a while back. It’s a shame because these machines and their pilots are a wonder.
I looked at this beast and thought that it’s a marvel this thing can fly! Thanks.
Stunning photos! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you 🙂
It’s a big one that’s for sure.
That is for sure!
Pretty cool indeed! I love seeing photos of the cockpits of aircraft.
Amazing that that huge beast can fly.
And fully loaded to boot!
