Castle Fraser – with a core that dates possibly back to the 1450’s – is one of Scotland’s largest tower houses with quite a few things inside to see including going up to the top of the round tower for incredible views of the estate. Sadly, we got there too late for the last tour and were unable to go inside. I really would’ve loved to have gone up in that tower.
When you drive up and park you still have a bit of a walk before the castle appears before you surrounded by trees. It is rather impressive.

Impressive indeed!
I can just see having tea here…come to think of it there was a tea room here but I was too late for that too 😦
A shame you got there too late. This looks like a very eclectic castle and the views from the top would have been awesome. I’m guessing they would have had tapestries as well, as Indiana Jones would have appreciated. 🙂
The castle looks a little pink. Is that the light or was it the stone colour?
We spent a lot of time at the first two castles of the day (will show later) and stopped for lunch before we finally found this location. Did peek in the door to see very stately furniture and paintings. It’s the light from the back that made it warmer than it’s natural color.
It is actually looking like a castle that I could live in.. it does not look too big with huge yard ❤
It is rather livable but about that yard? It sits on 300 acres 😉
It seems unfathomable to build something like that back in the 15th century. It’s beautiful.
They had some genuine craftsmen back then.
Wow neato!!! Not too big, not to small, just about right for a summer cottage!
I don’t know about that! hahaha
Another cool castle. It’s interesting to see it on the flats, and not built on a hill.
Thanks, Tim. I think this one was built more for living than defending but I could be wrong.
Maybe it was build in defense of living.
Beautiful. Hard to imagine buildings that old, sometimes.
Thanks. What was hard for me to imagine was how they built them!
What a cute little thing. 🙂
It is but the pink one is cuter 🙂
