The power of networking photo shoot

Recently I’ve been going downtown into Columbus, Ohio for recent events like gallery hops and various festivals.  It’s because of attending and shooting at those that I’ve come to meet and know many new people in the local artistic scene.

Through that networking I now have some of my photos on display in a government building which has a local artist exhibit in one of their halls, I may be attending a big two day local event next month and just this past weekend I was invited to (via being tagged on social media – isn’t modern communication interesting) a photographer meetup that turned out to be a blast!

Mind you, the majority of the photographers there were in their 20’s and 30’s with a handful of us with a wee bit of silver in our hair to balance out things and so many different cameras as well; and not a bit of gear envy or being made to feel bad about what you were shooting with.  But the main thing was everyone was there to shoot, network, talk shop and have fun.

There were also models there which while I’m not sure if they were models in the sense that they have a model number or something but there were some amazing people there for us to shoot… and some of the photographers got into the act as well.  The streets and buildings and the top of a parking garage were our sets.

The guy who organized this meetup hopes to make this a monthly thing.  I hope that can happen because even though I don’t normally do portraits, I had fun doing so and learning from others who do this as their main form of photography.

Yes! She is hanging from a beam in a bus shelter but you should’ve seen the number of us trying to fit into it to take the shot.

Miles Morales Spiderman showed up too!
