They see me rolling…

Columbus, Ohio is a very bike friendly city.  There are bike lanes on many of the streets and bike paths in every park.  The Alum Creek State park even has a dedicated mountain bike trail.  This doesn’t even include the rental bikes that are downtown but it appears they are being outnumbered by those scooters that are multiplying like crazy.

I know several of you wonderful readers are avid cyclists (I’m just a pedal nicely sort myself) so here is an image with some song titles that are about bicycling or have bicycle in the lyrics.  Have a happy pedaling weekend and we’ll be back on the Utah trail next week.

Queen: Bicycle Race

Red Hot Chili Peppers: Bicycle Song

Carlos Vives & Shakira: La Bicicleta

Harry Dacre (Frank Dean): Daisy Bell (Bicycle built for two)

Can you think of any more?  Let me know in the comments.

They just introduced renta-a-scooters in Albuquerque. I thought we might be spared, but no. Albuquerque has become one of the most dangerous cities in the US cyclists. I don’t ride anymore. Back in my racing days, I road 300 to 400 miles a week training for races.

I didn’t know that Albuquerque was so dangerous for cyclists. When we were there last autumn, it looked like they had great bicycle lanes. And the they have great bicycle trails, don’t they? We’ll be back to Albuquerque this autumn and we intend to bicycle the Paseo del Bosque Trail.

The city has pretty good bike trails, but the number of people killed on bikes per capita is one of the highest in the country. There are a lot of ghost bikes at intersections around the city. I’ve had several friends and acquaintances killed on their bikes over the years. The last one was run over by a cement truck a couple of years ago.

      • Pit says:

Thanks for the information, Timothy. I hadn’t noticed the ghost bikes when we drove around there.

    • That’s a lot of pedaling! And those scooters irk me to no end!

In the first stages of planning our “RailTrailsRoadTrip” last year, Columbus was under consideration, but the we decided on Cincinnati. Not because of bicycling in Cincinnati itself, but because of the Little Miami Scenic Trail [].

  3. Nice image. Maybe I need a visit to Columbus!

  4. Nancy says:

    Columbus is beautiful!
    We love to bike!
