Wood ducks that is. But alas, not the splendidly plumed male duck. This was a group of young females so I can now say I have sorta kinda photographed wood ducks – finally! I’ve been told by a couple of birding friends where to find a male or two.

They were some slick characters too. Even though I was shooting with a long lens they knew just where to swim around and in the reeds that made it difficult to get a good close shot. The hunt – now fortified by having seen some of them – continues!

When migrating… we get a few wood ducks here at the lake.
One time I had a whole family of wood ducks in the back yard! They left as fast as they came.
