It was a cold, overcast and windy morning when I got the message that there was something I needed to grab my camera and go look for. These guys normally don’t ever come this far south (and here in central Ohio south is really pushing it); they usually get as far south as the great lakes. So when I got the word from a fellow birder friend and its location was all of 10 minutes away from home…….. well yeah!
The word got out to a great portion of the birding community because when we got there there was a big line of photographers with all manner of gear having a go. When we left the park rangers showed up – no idea what that was about.
But it was so cool to capture an owl that I would probably never have seen in the wild. I’m glad this one was here but I do hope it’s not injured. More images later.

What a beautiful creature …. absolute heaven.
Thank you. I’m so thrilled to have been able to see her.
I don’t know who Hedwig is, but that’s a beautiful owl.
Thanks, Tim. She is a beauty and Hedwig is Harry Potter’s owl.
Never read or saw Harry Potter.
Wow!
Never interested me.
What about Terry Pratchett books?
Nope. I’m not really into science fiction. I’m more into things like The Iceland Sagas, Beowuf, and medieval literature. I’ve read some science fiction books by bloggers. Most of my reading of late is research for the papers I will be presenting at conferences.
Sir Terry’s Discworld series isn’t sci-fi. It’s gloriously witty British fantasy with a side of social commentary.
Fantasy. It’s not what interests me. The last novel by a well known author I read that I really liked was “American Gods” by Neil Gaiman. Most of my novel reading has been by my neighbor who has published an excellent series of historical fiction novels based on Annie Oakley. Teagan’s novels, Catwoods book, Wendi Bear’s books (racy but funny. She booby trapped me into buying her books), Shehanne’s books, etc. I work them in between my research.
American Gods the book is better than the series IMO and Gaiman wrote a book with Pratchett called Good Omens. Happy researching.
I never saw the American Gods series, but I can imagine the book is better. The only think I ever saw that I thought the TV series was better than the book was BBC’s version of “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy”. Otherwise, the books are generally far better than the movies of TV series. When a friend described the Rob Roy movie to me, I thought what a disaster. The book is fabulous, the movie sounded awful, not close to the book at all, from my friend’s description.
Wow! You are a lucky girl! I can’t wait for more pictures of Hedwig!
Thanks, Nancy! You should’ve seen all of the photographers surrounding Miss Hedwig here! 🙂
I bet! How fun!
Beautiful Hedwig 🙂
Amazing the way they can turn their heads on the shoulders at such creepy angles…
And so smoothly too! They are amazing creatures. Thanks 🙂
