A week ago I was able to post still having the classic editor as an option. Today I go in to try and get a post ready and BAM!!! I am stuck in block editor purgatory without a single warning or heads up or the option to still use classic. I feel violated to say the least and quite angry to say the most!!!
Until I figure out what to do and how to handle it I will be absent from posting. By any chance did this change sneak up on you and bite you in the rear or were you already using the abomination I call block editor? (Can you tell how miffed I am?)
UGH!!! In the meantime for those who have Instagram I am posting there @imagesbytd
We are not amused…….
I got the same last night. Frustrating. It won’t center my captions under the photos. It’s annoying a take a lot longer to assemble a post.
The hunting and pecking about to find things that were once so simple to find in order to create a post is annoying!!!! At least I managed to get this one out. Not looking forward to adding images!
Adding images is as easy as in the old editor – and you have way more options.
TBF I received a notification a little while ago to say they were switching Classic Editor off, so I have been using the new Block format for some months now as a result I have become quite used to it.
I was a little hesitant at first but now I’m used to how it works I quite like the new functionality and options it gives me. I’d say it’s probably easier to use on a PC/laptop than a mobile device.
I received the same notification some time ago as well but what annoys me greatly is that I got no warning as to when the Classic would be turned off other than this mornings surprise! I post from my PC and it took me awhile to figure out how to just post what I did.
I completely understand where you are coming from, as felt the same to start with. Changes are always frustrating especially when your not aware of when they are going to happen.
I’m so sorry… I heard others are having the same problem. I’ve been using the block editor for a while. I will say… centering images is difficult. I also will say Block Editor is a little easier on the iPad.
Good Luck!
I thought you were still using classic! Guess I get to pester you about how to use this mess! LOL
I lost Classic Editor a few days after WordPress announced the change. There is a workaround, but it’s a pain to use. Maggie who blogs gave the solution. However, you have to click on Add New Post and choose Classic Editor each time once you follow her directions. I have gotten used to the Block Editor and its various quirks. Doesn’t mean I like it, but if enough paying customers made it clear to WordPress they didn’t like it and stopped using the paid option, I think WordPress would get the message. I use a free account as I need the Business plan to do what I want to do and don’t have the money to upgrade to it for a couple of years.
I had been using the workaround for some time (and it was a tricky thing too!) until today when it was gone for good I’m assuming. I’ve been playing around with it some today and it’s a chore. I’m still using the free option but was considering going for self hosting/paid…not now!!!! Sigh – it’s pain in the rear learning curve time now.
yes i am with you on this. i like the classic and now the work around is gone. i use to be able to edit the size of my photos on the media page, but now i can not. also the media page would tell you where the photo was posted. now no.
I am still trying to find where the basic elements of making a post are! You don’t want to know how much pecking and hunting I had to do just to find where they put the tags!
👍
🙂
And I found my WP-ADMIN option gone. Got it back, thankfully.
How did you get it back? Mine is gone too!
Even if I’ve been using the new editor for quite some time now and am really happy with it, I can imagine your frustration at not being notified. Well, WP did notify all of us that they were going to di away with the old editor. So we could be prepared. It looks like I can still use the classic editor – right besides the new one – for my “Bilderbuch Blog”. Some time ago I saved a special bookmark to get to that old editor, and it still seems to work.
What have been doing for a long time now: I use the new editor and only for putting in galleries and/or for text indent I activate the classic editor. It is available within the new one.
Just give the new editor a try. Good luck with it.
When I wrote to WP some time ago about this change I knew it was going to come but continued to enjoy the workaround to classic. It just would’ve been “nice” if they had said something like “the end of March and it’s all gone!” or something along those lines instead of just POOF! I’ve tried to find anything classic editor and it isn’t happening. How have you been able to access it?
Hopefully you’ve read by now my post about the change to Unified Navigation and what you need to do to get to the Classic Editor (for now)? If you need help transitioning to the Block Editor, you know where to find me. 🙂
