Even though I know you can buy these plants to have on your patio in the summer, whenever I see a hibiscus my mind wanders off to tropical areas. I see islands or Florida, beaches and palm trees, and the ocean. So it came as a surprise to me when I found this plant still blooming happily in the early fall last year in one of my favorite local parks.
To me they will forever be the flower to place behind the ear and enjoy the sand and surf…hopefully with a drink with an umbrella in it. Or as I once said to a bartender in Jamaica, “Another pina colada and add some extra colada, please” They knew exactly what I meant 😉

Love it…
Thanks! Hope you’re feeling better
The yellow against the red is so great looking. Nice shot. Come on Spring!!!!
I saw daffodils today!!! I’m so excited 🙂
I’m officially jealous. We still hae good sized patches of snow and a very water logged yard.
I, too, see hibiscus and think tropical locales, Teri. Did you know that there are some varieties of hibiscus that will survive our winters? I’ve seen one with really large red blooms. I’d love to get one if I can find a spot for it.
Even the winter we just had? Will have to look into that.
There are two in Evanston that I see on my way to the market each week. Big red blooms. Quite striking.
Ahhh, flower behind the ear and a pina colada in hand. I haven’t experienced that (yet?). Something else to add to my unwritten travel bucket list! (As always, great image!)
Cindi, we must get you one of each ASAP! And thanks 🙂
Rum and I fell out of contact many years ago — it was rum’s fault, along with some cola 😉 — but since it’s mixed with coconut and pineapple flavors, I might be convinced to try it again. Add a little Jimmy Buffet and your hibiscus, and it sounds like a delightful time!
Oh yeah!
Beautiful photo! I have a pink hibiscus out on the back patio! LOVE IT!!
Thanks and I’m jealous that you have one on your patio 🙂
Hee hee!!
They bloom year-round here in San Diego, as do most plants. To see roses and hibiscus blooming year round is something I never would have expected when I was living in Texas.
And I bet you don’t exactly miss the changing of seasons, do you? 😉
I just bought some fresh flowers for my porch. Ahhhh, spring!
I’ve got to wait for that for awhile still 😦
I love planting Hibiscus poolside – can’t wait…just a few more months.
I think I will get one for the deck this year.
You like pina colada? And getting caught in the rain? 🙂
The hibiscus really does make you think of tropical climes. Lovely shot.
Pina coladas yes! Caught in the rain? Only after a few pina coladas 😉 Thanks.
